Serve

“We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

Hammer

3rd Saturdays

Ministering to those in our community who are needy or elderly by helping with home repairs, yard work, and much more.

We have a crew of very skilled workers, with a larger portion of us (non skilled) who have a servant's heart and willing hands.   We also have numerous other projects being put on hold until we have more people to help.  People who are willing to sit and talk with some of our clients while the repairs are being made are needed as well.

It's very helpful to know who can participate, so we can plan work teams.  However, you can just show up at Mt. Zion on Saturday at 8:30 am .  Please email our coordinator Mike Arnold at mike.arnold@mzprays.org  to let him know you are planning on coming.  Also, let him know if you have any skills in painting, construction, electrical, plumbing, etc.

You will be blessed serving with this Local Mission. We hope you will join our team.

Coordinator - Mike Arnold

ADD A WARM MESSAGE TO WELCOME VISITORS

Children of Zion Village- Namibia, Africa

The Children of Zion Village was originally established as a Christian home for orphans of the AIDS pandemic in the southern African nation of Namibia. It is located along the Zambezi River in the northeast corner of Namibia. Our children come from several different tribal and language groups.

The “village” opened in January, 2003 and is now home to about 50 children. In the beginning, most of the children were placed in our care because they had lost their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to AIDS. Today children may be placed with us for a variety of reasons. They may be orphaned because of AIDS or other illness, or may have become vulnerable because of parental illness, incarceration, poverty, neglect, or human trafficking.

Here the boys and girls receive love, nutrition, shelter, healthcare, academic, vocational and Bible education, and become part of one large Christian family. Our missionaries, volunteers, and Namibian staff work together to raise the children in our “village”.

After establishing and operating our school for our own children for several years we found that there was a great need among non-vulnerable children in our community for a Christian education. In obedience to “The Great Commission” we expanded our school to also invite local children from the community to join with our children in receiving a quality Christian education.

Matt Bohlman - Orphanage in Cambodia

The nation of Cambodia continues to emerge from the mass genocide of the Khmer Rouge that killed approximately 3 million of its citizens. Beset with extreme poverty, the widespread pandemic of AIDS, and amidst the dangers of human trafficking, hundreds of thousands of children is left to sift through refuse and garbage to survive.  In the city of Siem Reap, the Bob and Clara Pace Orphanage was established to meet this great need.

The home was initially started in 2005. “People for Care and Learning” and “Men and Women of Action” built the beautiful compound. The current staff, led by Director Matt Bohlman, provides excellent care for 27 children, as well as provides meals and youth programming for hundreds each week.

From MZ to WV- Wharncliffe, WV.

In 2006 Mt. Zion began a partnership with the community of Wharncliffe, WV.  Mt Zion supports Wharncliffe’s emergency food pantry year round. Mt. Zion partners with the Wharncliffe community volunteers to hold a community Christmas gathering as well as an annual Vacation Bible School and Back-to-School supply drive.  Most importantly we partner with Wharncliffe to share the love and hope of Jesus.  We build relationships between Mt. Zion and Wharncliffe and we are all tremendously blessed by each other.

Benedict and Kathleen Schwartz -
Villages of Hope

Screenshot 2023-03-30 at 11.33.35 AM.png

In 2004, Benedict Schwartz answered a calling to create orphan villages in Africa. Benedict’s vision was to create a model that would provide children living in these villages with the knowledge and skills to succeed as adults and to create an economically sustainable community. This would be done by giving them hands-on experiences in jobs.

Benedict saw a great need in the country of Zambia, which has 1.6 million orphans. In 2006, 230 acres were purchased there to start the Villages of Hope. Since then, the village has accomplished the following: taken in at-risk children who have no one else to care for them, started several medium-sized businesses to financially support the village, and founded the School of Hope. The Village of Hope is located in the Chibomba District 50 kilomoters north of Lusaka.
