EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS

While a formal academic degree is not required for credentialing through Mt. Zion Ministry Fellowship, foundational ministry education is required at each credential level and may be completed through the Mt. Zion School of Discipleship.

However, formal theological education is strongly encouraged. Pursuing an accredited program provides a deeper and more comprehensive preparation for ministry. Mosaic Christian College is a recommended option for those seeking formal academic training, though other approved institutions may also be considered.

This section will help you determine whether your current educational background meets the credit hour requirements for your desired credential:

  • Commissioned Minister: 12 credit hours in Bible, theology, or ministerial studies

  • Associate Minister: 15 credit hours in Bible, theology, or ministerial studies

  • Ordained Minister: 24 credit hours in Bible, theology, or ministerial studies

If additional coursework is needed, we’ll help you identify the most effective path to completion—whether through the Mt. Zion School of Discipleship or a formal academic institution.

As part of Step 1 in the application process, we offer a comprehensive transcript evaluation to determine which completed courses satisfy credentialing requirements and to outline any remaining educational needs.

Our commitment is to equip you spiritually, theologically, and practically for a lifetime of faithful and effective ministry.

Mentorship

Mentorship is an essential component of ministerial development at Mt. Zion Ministry Fellowship. Candidates for Associate Minister and Ordained Minister credentials participate in a guided mentoring process designed to foster spiritual growth, theological clarity, and ministry readiness. This includes regular meetings with a pastoral mentor, formative reading, and evaluation against the appropriate competency outcomes. Commissioned Ministers are not required to complete a mentorship phase, as their credential reflects readiness for service without this additional developmental step.

Endorsement

The Mt. Zion Ministry Fellowship Ministry Endorsement Standards define how Mt. Zion Church affirms individuals for specific ministry roles. While credentialing recognizes God’s call on a person’s life and affirms their readiness for ministry in general, endorsement assigns that person to a particular role of ministry under Mt. Zion’s covering. This process is especially important for individuals who hold ministerial credentials from outside organizations but seek to serve in recognized roles within Mt. Zion. Endorsement provides spiritual authority, relational accountability, and institutional affirmation, ensuring that all who serve align with the church’s mission, doctrine, and values. Candidates must demonstrate theological clarity, moral integrity, ministry competence, and a commitment to Mt. Zion’s leadership standards. Evaluations are conducted by the Credentialing & Endorsement Committee (CEC), which reviews qualifications, verifies alignment, and confirms readiness for service. Through this process, endorsement clarifies both the scope and responsibility of a minister’s role within the life and mission of Mt. Zion Church.

Credentialing vs. Endorsement

Credentialing
Recognizes God’s call on a person’s life and affirms their overall readiness and qualification for ministry. Credentialing answers the question: Is this person called and equipped for ministry?

Endorsement
Assigns a credentialed minister to a specific role or ministry context under Mt. Zion’s covering. Endorsement answers the question: Is this person approved and affirmed to serve in this particular ministry role under Mt. Zion's spiritual covering?

ANNUAL RENEWAL

All credentialed and endorsed ministers with Mt. Zion Ministry Fellowship must renew their credentials each year. This includes those newly credentialed or recently upgraded.

Renewal Steps

  • Submit Annual Renewal Form (including ministry report and growth reflection)

  • Submit record of continued education (courses, mentoring, reading, or training completed)

Renewal season runs from November 1 to December 31. All steps must be completed by December 31. After December 31, credentials are considered lapsed, and ministers must follow the reinstatement process below.

Credential Reinstatement

If your credentials have lapsed, you must submit a reinstatement application. Steps to reinstate vary based on how long credentials have been inactive. See Steps to Apply for details.

APPLY TODAY

To receive ministry endorsement through Mt. Zion Ministry Fellowship, candidates submit an application to the Credentialing & Endorsement Committee (CEC) for review. The process includes assessing theological alignment, confirming moral and ministry qualifications, and determining readiness for ministry. For those credentialed outside of Mt. Zion, this serves as an evaluative step to recognize their call and formally affirm their ministry role under Mt. Zion’s covering. Upon approval, the candidate is granted endorsement and enters ongoing accountability and review through the church. Click the link below to begin the application.
